We find ourselves in an unprecedented moment in history where our entire country is being tested at every level. AAHTF realizes that educators across America are: disheartened, confused and fatigued. The session topics will equip educators with tools that will help them navigate these difficult waters.
Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means working together collectively to promote the quality of life in a community.
The Commissioner of Education's African American History Task Force is an advocate for Florida's school districts, teacher education training centers, and the community at large, in implementing the teaching of the history of African peoples and the contributions of African Americans to society.
The Summer Institute assists the Task Force in it's mission to ensure awareness of the requirements, identify and recommend needed state education leadership action, assist in adoption of instructional materials by the state, and build supporting partnerships.
